Senior Project Problems
Alot of changes occured at EHS this year, the biggest one is the seniors at the school were forced into another graduation requirment, senior projects. Not only did they force this project upo the students at the high school but also made the matter very unprofessioal for some of the students.
The teachers and facaltly announced the project outline at the start of the year, the steps were very simple.
1.) Write a proposal letter about what your project would be on and how you would go about accomplishing it. In the letter the students had to sate who their senior mentor would be, who their ouside source would be and also to state your project and the plan to accomplish it.
2.)Begin your project with your mentor and outside source's help.
3.)Present your project to a panel of teachers and they would decide if you pass or fail.
Many seniors refused to do this this silly project and ended up failing, these students will not alk with their peers and possibly will not graduate.
One instance ended horifically for one student, who will remain nameless. He wrote a song and made a music video for his project. His letter had been accepted, his mentor had no complaints and his panel gave him an outstandin 19/20. A week after he presented the powerless figure, known as the Vice Pricipal, called this young man into his office and told him he had to redo his project that he worked all year on, in one month if he wished to graduate. The man made up staistics such as "80% of the school was offended by the racey comments in the song about his best friend, making jokes about how close their friendship is. Was this fair to do to this student who not only worked all year on his Senior project, that literally offfended no one i talked to, and also worked hard to keep an oustanding GPA throughout grade school, middle school and high school while juggleing school sports?
Evanston High School and the entire distric has many changes to make next year, in both the education part of school and also in the facualty who judged this project unfairly. They could have given this senior a warning before he began his project but instead waited until he presented and then pulled him down.
What did any senior gain from this project? 60 wasted hours of work durring the year? No diploma for their 12 hard years of work? What was fair about this project this year? Nothing and changes need to be made.

Civil Rights Essay
Ever since slaves were transported from Africa to America they have been greatly discriminated against. However, in the late 1960’s the Civil rights act was officially passed and African Americans were legally no longer discriminated against, that is only in a perfect world.
Even years after the civil rights act of 1968, African American still struggle to find good jobs and careers. Jobs are becoming much more competitive and with more and more white Americans graduating from college, and less African Americans having completed high school it makes it a very uneven match up in the workforce. It is easier for an African American to get a job in a big city then it is in a small town like Evanston, this is mainly because people in larger cities have grown accustom to interracial work places while in smaller towns people are not used to diversity as much. This is not fair but hopefully this will change and soon.
But this is not the case all around America. In some organizations laws have been implemented to make it fairer or more equal for every race or ethnicity. The NFL, for example, made a coaching and organizational rule, if you have an open coaching position you have to interview at least one African American candidate and one Caucasian candidate for the job before making your final decision. This gives everyone an equal chance for the job at hire, but some peoples say that this doesn’t change anything and that if a team wants a white coach they will just interview a black man to satisfy the rule, recently happened with Seattle Seahawks.
Because African Americans are a minority they usually get a lesser education than a majority group. This is mainly because minorities are almost forced to live in poverty and go to schools where their education is not going to be above par. This could possibly hinder their futures and cause them to get lower paying jobs, just continuing the cycle of African American poverty. With a below average high school education, maybe not even a full high school education in some cases, these young men and women have very low chance of getting into college and if they do the issue of how to pay for a further education.
If minorities like African Americans are not given equal opportunities in the work force it could seriously hurt this nation. Everyone needs to be successful in order to have a prosperous nation. African Americans are given much better opportunities for employment today then they would have ever got 50 years ago, so progress has been made. But the main struggle for black Americans is not getting equal opportunities for jobs but getting the education needed for the jobs available.
In today’s society, African Americans are given more opportunities for high paying and lower wage jobs, the problem is not discrimination in the work place as much as it is getting the education required for these jobs. In a way this is still discrimination because it is the former slave owners who made it difficult for African Americans to get themselves out of poverty and into higher level jobs. Discrimination in America is becoming less frequent and sooner or later everyone will have the same opportunities for jobs.

BOOKS
IN 2009 i discovered that not all books suck, actually some are pretty good. I read "1984" in march which was by far my favorite, Then i read "Brave new world" just to contrast the two books. After this i took a short break from reading all summer and picked back up with "Animal Farm" in November. I just started "The Jungle" by Upton Siclair and will hopefully be finished by christmas. Some books i started but couldnt get into were "Sometimes a great notion", "The picture of Dorian Gray" which i read the sparknotes on and passed the test on it with the highest grade in the class, and "oNE FLEW OVER THE cUCOOS NEST" i wasnt so much uninterested in this book, i just was too into 1984 at the time. I also started Zen and the art of motorcycle maitnece twice but got hung up around page 250 each time and i will finish it asap. Dude i learned this year.

Death and Greed(Analysis essay from the pardoners tale(Canterberry tales)
In the Pardoners tale, are death and greed the same character? After all if it weren’t for the greed that the three men had for the gold, none of them would have died. Or is greed that causes death? Either way, greed and death are heavily connected in The Pardoners tale.
In the story, the old man tells the three rioters that only death waits under the tree that their friend was found dead under (pg 161, lines 103-105). This is a perfect example of how death and greed are connected because the old man is basically doing Death’s dirty work and sending them to the tree, and the old man could also want all the gold for himself after they have all died.
In lines 111-113 the three men discover that only gold coins lay under the tree, unlike what the old man had told them, this event is what eventually causes these three men’s deaths. If they hadn’t gone there to avenge their friend’s death, they wouldn’t have killed each other. Or was it death that killed them?
Death and Greed, in my opinion, are the most connected characters in the story. If one didn’t exist the entire story would be completely different. If Greed wasn’t in the story the three men would have split the money and death wouldn’t have killed any of them. And if Death wasn’t in the story the three men would have been immortal and lived. I think they are two separate characters but they could not exist in the story without one another.
