In 2010 Chevy plans on putting the most environmentally safe car on the market. The Volt's engine is it's key feature, running up to 40 miles a day on pure electricity no gas needed. 75% of Americans travel less than that a day to and from work. Also the Volt will use a lithium-ion battery with a gasoline-powered, range-extending engine that uses a generator to provide electric power when you drive more than 40 miles.
The Volt is not the only environmental car that GM has come up with to try and stay in business. Last year they produced the first ever Cadillac Escalade hybrid. In 2009 the Chevy Silverado will go hybrid as well. And in 2008 Chevy released a few fuel cell Equinox's on the streets of DC, New York and Southern California.
Are these desperate attempts to stay in business? I mean Ford, also on the verge on going out of business, is doing the same thing with the Escape and Edge. Also the Focus has had a fleet of their own become fuel cell.
Will this be enough to keep struggling business' in control? Or will the economy hurt them even more?

I still want a big SUV with 4 wheel drive. And it will probably be an import.
